Another common bird we saw in Washington State is the Stellar's Jay. I think they are beautiful. These images were on a day we transferred from the Mt Rainier Park area to Anacortes, Washington.
A larger image of the iron sculpted giraffe.
On our drive to Anacortes we stopped at the park below called Bay View State Park on the Padilla Bay. I was amazed at how many Great Blue Herons were seen hanging out in the bay. The tide must have been low at this time. The photo below looks better after you click for a larger image.
I believe these are Western Grebe's below, if I am wrong please let me know.
For Tom's party ...a barn across the bay.

This shop called Recycled Spirits of Iron off on Rt 706 in Ashford Washington. The iron sculptures are huge, there were horses, a giraffe, rooster and eagle. The sculptures were all very cool. I took these photos from the road and our car.

Very nice post, Eileen, great shots indeed!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I love those metal sculptures! They must be HUGE!
ReplyDeleteStellar's Jay, what a quizzical look. And the barn, that has a Monet look to the whole photo, mystical and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteEileen, the recycled iron creatures was beautiful, every shot was well taken.
ReplyDeleteLindo parque e belas esculturas! Gostei de ver! bjs, tudo de bom, chica
ReplyDeleteLoved the painterly effect of the barn photo and the iron sculptures. I labored over ID of Clark's vs Western Grebes at Lake Powell and believe the extent of the black cap supports your opinion. Without photos it was more difficult for me, especially at a distance.
ReplyDeleteThe Jays have such beautiful bright blue colours. We don't have them here, only black crows or western jackdows.

ReplyDeleteSuch metal artworks are starting to appear here in UK and certainly I saw some in OZ... but that place is an out and out gallery!!! The giraffe is particularly splendid... as is the heat-shimmer barn... Happy weekend! YAM xx
The bird is gorgeous. My husband and I love the iron sculptures. Thanks so much for sharing and have a nice Sat.

Oh Eileen you were right in my neck of the woods. We like Bayview Park. Right across Padilla Bay at Marches Point is a very large Heron rookery. No wonder you saw so many Herons. In the evening when they fly of to the nest is quite a sight.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the super images

Nice birds, but my favorite is that iron giraffe!
ReplyDeleteThe Stellar Jay is a new one to me. Very pretty. I've been watching a busy pair of cardinals this morning! I enjoyed your post. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteah cool...the Stellers Jay. Yes. Beautiful
ReplyDeleteCool shot of the barn across the bay.
That artwork is very cool and right here in my home state. There are so many roads and so many things to see around us. Thanks for sharing what you saw.
ReplyDeleteI love the heat blur on the barn, it's a great representation of the oppressive weather we've had in southwestern WI and from what I see all over. You've got a great eye for heron's, there are supposed to be some nearby, but my fav place to watch them is about 30 minutes away high up in the tall pines. I love the giraffe statue, it's a great pic and piece of art.
ReplyDeleteSteller's Jays are incredible birds, and like all corvids are extremely intelligent. I always look forward to seeing them when I travel out west.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous series, Eileen! And the iron sculpted giraffe is very attractive and creative! I hope you have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my that Jay is awesome! I bet my PA jays would like that headdress! :)
ReplyDeleteThe jay is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Stellar Jay is beautiful, with such a rich blue hue, and the water on the Bay is pretty. I always enjoy iron and copper sculptures. These are great, what talent! Have a great weekend Eileen.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! The Stellars jay is very handsome and I love the sculptures! We have two very similar giraffe sculptures in Edinburgh
ReplyDeleteThe Stellar Jay looks proud perched there.
ReplyDeleteInteresting iron sculptures of the animals.
I too like the Steller's Jay. Such a change from out pink and grey European jay. My, those sculptures are huge Eileen. Guess you didn't have room in the car to take one home?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your Saturday hosting skills. Have a wonderful week ahead.
Such fascinating sculptures!
ReplyDeleteAlso loved the Stellar's Jay and that is a great barn. Have a great week!

A great shot of the barn, it's really good... kind of a heat shimmer all over it?
Have a great week ahead and sending good cheers :D)
Lovely shots Eileen. Hope you're having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteInteresting giraffe!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see a Steller Jay! We used to see them when we lived in Alaska. And if I'm remembering right, I may not be, but I think they used to be the bird that would take things from our campsite. But what another fun park, those sculptures are really cool!
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying your weekend!
Mr Irish would enjoy the recycled animal sculpture garden . . .
ReplyDeleteHappy Father's Day to your husband for tomorrow
Yep, that stellar jay looks mighty familiar! We occasionally get them in our backyard and I see them when I'm hiking in the Cascade mountains. Can't wait to hear about the rest of your WA trip.
ReplyDeleteGolly, it's been YEARS since I've seen a stellar jay in person -when we lived in Colorado-. That is one awesome photo of the jay too Eileen.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this with us birders this weekend, at I'd Rather B Birdin'!!
Mais um conjunto de belas fotografias.
