Horned Grebe

I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

This week I am featuring the Horned Grebe I saw while at the Ocean City Inlet.

The Grebes are one of my favorite birds, as least my favorite at the time of the sighting..

Look at that eye, isn't it cool? Looks almost alien like... neat scarlet eyes. The Horned Grebe is a small water bird. And an excellent swimmer and diver.

Their plumage is unmistakable in the summer, when both the male and female have a black head with brown puffy earlike tufts

I hope you enjoyed seeing the Horned Grebe as much as I did! Thanks for stopping by my post and for all the nice comments.

  29. That red eye was the first thing I noticed. He looks like a handsome fellow.
The ripples and the color of the water made a terrific background to capture him against.

My favorite is probably the Pied-Billed Grebe ... they are just too cute and we do see them here often.
