Great Crested Flycatcher

This my entry for Bird Photography weekly  click on my link to see more wonderful bird photography.
The last few days I have been seeing the Great Crested Flycatcher in my yard. A few times it was perched in my weeping cherry tree watching others birds at my feeders. Another time I saw it flying away with a clump of my dog's hair.

Since my Golden Retriever sheds a lot I put more of her hair out on my deck railing and that clump disappeared quickly.

This weeping cherry tree sits across from my deck where I keep some of my bird feeders. The tree is very popular with all my yardbirds.

This is a photo of a Brown Thrasher perched in the same tree on the same day.

Thanks for visiting my blog and to see my birds. Visit Birdfreak's blog for more Bird photography

  1. Eileen: Cool photos of the flycatcher, I never saw one until I went to Mexico. The tree is such a neat place to capture the birds.

  2. It looks as though you've got a wonderful viewpoint. We don't have either of these birds.

  3. I read on another blog that you can put the fur in a suet cage to keep if from blowing away.

  4. The Flycatcher must be collecting the dog's hair to build its nest.

  10. I love this bird. It is one of the few I can identify by call. Great pictures. I remember the first time I saw one "officially" I was at a park and heard it first not knowing what it was... I searched one tree forever until I finally found where the sound was coming from. What a delight to find out it was coming from such a gorgeous bird!

  11. Great pictures of the Great-cested Fltcatcher Eileen. I remember them from Ontario, if I reacll they were pretty noisy dudes, and "thrasher" just has to be the most descriptive name ever.

  13. Excellent captures of the Great Crested Flycatcher and the Brown Thrasher Eileen! I love flycatchers!

We have the Ash-throated Flycatcher here whose call fills my ears with joy every year.

They are cavity nesting birds that raise their young in my nest boxes. Your flycatcher was obviously collecting nesting material and probably nesting nearby.

The Brown Thrasher is definitely an added bonus. What a gorgeous bird!

  14. These are wonderful! I know both of these birds can be difficult to catch! I have had a little flycatcher in my yard for a couple of weeks now but not been able to snap him, he is quick! And I got to watch a pair of Thrashers today and snap a few of them, but yours is better. :) Lovely captures!
